12for12k With Mom It Forward And Yehu Microfinance

Posted by Gripfactor | Social Media, iGrip | Monday 6 April 2009 11:47 pm

12for12k logo

In a time of financial distress and economic downturn everyone around the world is feeling the changes to lifestyle. This month 12for12k.org teams with MomItForward.com to bring opportunities to Kenya through Yehu.org. Rather than just give money at a fundraiser or spend a few hours volunteering at a community, these two organizations are working in unison to bring a little entrepreneurial spirit to the people of Kenya. By offering your dollars to 12for12k.org you are helping provide funds through Yehu.org, a microfinance organization. The money goes to support small businesses and the people that look to build their own life to get out of poverty and create a sustainable life for their family and communities in Kenya.

Who is 12for12k.org? It’s an organization using social media, social networking and the PR of people to raise funds for different charities every month. This month the chosen charity is Yehu.org. The concept is sweet and simple: 12 months, 12 different charities, $12,000 per month based on minimal donations of $10 per month per user! There is no sign-up or obligation, just plain and simple giving on the website every month knowing it will benefit a different charity every month. The voice of 12for12k.org comes from the people that give and the use of social media to spread the word in your networks.

Who is MomItForward.com? They are an organization of women out to “change the world one mom at a time” by being active in communities. There are online meetings on Twitter, social activities, fundraisers, blog activities and more that bring moms together to improve socially, personally and within their community.

Join me in helping support 12for12k with this month’s partner MomItForward and charity Yehu.org.

Search In Blackle To Save Energy

Posted by Gripfactor | Social Media, iGrip | Wednesday 18 March 2009 5:38 pm

Blackle Search Engine

If you are into being “green” check out the Blackle search engine. Heap Media has provided a way to use a black background and the Google search engine in hopes to save energy by using less watts while searching. They also have other products including spam free email and a food search engine. Mark Ontkush posted a story in 2007 on ways believed to save energy if there was a “black” Google based on number of hits to the website and the watts used on a monitor to display a white/light background versus a black/dark background. Using the site is as simple as searching directly with Google. I question if there is monetary value behind users searching from Blackle considering its using Google custom search and if any of the proceeds are being used towards energy programs. Try it out and let me know what you think.

DubMeNow Brings The Virtual Business Card

Posted by Gripfactor | Mobile Technology, Social Applications | Monday 23 February 2009 4:05 am

DubMeNow

A new way to do business cards is using the mobile application DubMeNow. You can hand out your business card in the traditional way or you can think green and go paperless. The idea behind DubMeNow is to collect and immediately use your information on the go and always in sync. If you are at a meeting, social gathering, conference or any event you can use your mobile phone to make contact with a new person by entering the information in your mobile phone. This keeps the moment social and provides immediate follow-up because an email is sent to the individual requesting them to join you on DubMeNow, which also provides a way to contact you in the near future.

The latest release of DubMeNow, version 1.06, also adds some new features that are attractive to the social media savvy where you can send out a message to microblogging service Twitter when you have received your contact’s information. This may be a genius way to promote that you both use the application and have others interested in sharing with you for business. The mobile application is now available on all mobile phones including the iPhone and Blackberry. The iPhone version has been added to the iPhone application store and is ready for immediate download! Another great business use is for CRM applications such as Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, SugarCRM and Seibel. A few upcoming integrations include Linkedin which DubMeNow has partnered with, as well as, Google, Microsoft, and RIM.

So what are you waiting for, go DubMeNow!

Ashton Kutcher And A Qik Shot of Social Media

Posted by Gripfactor | Mobile Technology, Social Applications, Social Media | Sunday 22 February 2009 3:20 am

Ashton Kutcher decided to share his video of testing an updated version of Qik from his mobile phone. You can hear the sound from TweetDeck , an application used for Twitter, in the background as he films wife Demi Moore, who is also at her Mac using Twitter. The brilliance in this is the free plug for Qik.com. No Paparazzi, no reporters, no stalkers. Just two people doing what the rest of us do. They are fun to follow on Twitter!
